Synthesis and Properties of Cleavable Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

چکیده
Quaternary ammonium compounds are widely used as antiseptic and disinfectant. It is been a concern that their widespread use will lead to an increase of environmental problems, therefore the development biodegradable surfactants necessary. The present research aimed at design novel amphiphilic molecules with similar properties those already known but more biodegradable. Based on benzalkonium chloride (BAC), carbonate cleavable (CBAC) were synthesized. breakable sites make CBAC degradable potentially than non-cleavable BAC analogues. Natural products such fatty alcohols (C8-C16) N,N-dimethyl-2-aminoethanol reagents for synthesis CBAC8-16. These characterized in terms surface antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts moulds. showed activities aqueous solutions when compared BAC. Also, activity/structure relationship revealed n-decyl group (CBAC10) same behaviour Furthermore, containing n-octyl (CBAC8), n-dodecyl (CBAC12) strong activities.

Surfactants have the special ability to interact with the lipid bilayer of cell membranes. The red blood cell is one of the most used cellular membrane models to study the mechanisms underlying surfactant – induced osmotic cell resistance. The aim of this study is the evaluation of the effect of the prepared surfactants on red blood cells (RBC) as a model for biological membranes. Also, in this ...

A simple met.hod of titration with a cationic detergent has been developed which permits rapid estimation of the concentration of urinary protein with a minimum of manipulations and time. The method depends on the formation of an insoluble anion-cation complex between quaternary ammonium ions, hereinafter referred to as the cationic detergent, and proteins, in the present instance mainly human ...

متن کامل[Quaternary ammonium compounds--new occupational hazards].
Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs, quats) belong to organic ionic chemical agents which display unique properties of both surfactants and disinfectants. Their wide distribution in the work environment and also in private households brings about new occupational hazards. This paper reviews reports about the health effects of QACs. QACs could play a role of sensitizers and irritants to the skin...
